On this valentine's day,

I'd just like to say, for my beautiful and wonderful wife, how much I appreciate your amazing influence in my life.
If everyone had someone like you to turn to and believe in, the world would be the amazing place that you and I both believe
it should be.
I know you have to put up with so much from me... and you say it's not putting up at all. You're wonderful, Molly. An angel
on earth. Just a pure and perfect being.
I love you with all my heart.
Thank you, for 3 years of true friendship, for 9 months of the best and the only wonderful relationship of my life, and for
the future.
Happy Valentine's Day!

So, a conversation today with a friend of mine led me to consider a problem that's been troubling me for probably most of my life.
What the hell am I supposed to DO?
Discussing future plans and ideas with friends tends to lead to the same conclusion: it's frightening, and kinda depressing at the same time. I mean, who wants to be stuck doing some normal job? Who wants to gain a qualification and then get work in this profession and earn a living being "professional"? Ok, the obvious answer is a large section of the community! But for me, and for many of my friends (Mostly the more creatively minded) it is a frightening burden. We tend to imagine our futures as being something that is a long way away, when we are children. No need to worry about that just now, it isn't coming any time soon.
In reality, it comes very soon! You start out as a child and everyone is condescending to you, telling you "You don't konw what you want, I have to make every decision for you", and the next thing you know, you're an adult, and everyone is asking you "Why haven't you made a decision yet?"
It is particularly hard, i believe, when we have dreams of something a little "out of the ordinary". For example, I have some vague dream of becoming a novelist, being famous, travelling the world, being payed in advance for my upcoming script.. but that's all it is really. A vague dream. I guess the idea would be, if this is what I wish to achieve, to write my text, and then find a way to sell it.
Sound difficult? It is! These days, publishers won't even read texts sent from authors, you need an agent.
But this is not the point... the point is: as a child, (which I still consider myself) it is frightening to think "I may have to become an adult with a job I hate." It's depressing.. and "mature" adults accuse you of being a dreamer for wanting something else.
And it seems little comfort to say "You don't have to be payed for what you love to do", because we all know, if we have to work another job to support ourselves, this dampens our abilities to put ourselves into our creativity.
What can be done? Career days for writers? Meetings with celebrities at schools? Classes on how to become "rich and famous"? It's a sad state of affairs... these high profile jobs carry such mystique, and offer so few positions to a growing youth... an even more daunting prospect than simply earning a living.

"you wake up to realize
your standard of living somehow got stuck on 'survive'..."

(thanks Jewel.)

So how do we just do what we want? Live on social security? Ignore bills? The idea in this modern society is MARKETING! Whatever it is you're selling, it seems it doesn't even MATTER if it's complete rubbish! (I mean... people buy Norton Internet Security...) The idea is simply to CONVINCE people that they want what you have to give them.
This is difficult... especially since, most of us are not about marketing ourselves, we are about expressing ourselves in a unique way that may in fact NOT appeal to the mass of society.
IT seems however this is what we all must learn, if we wish to be more than simply ordinary.
And remember, you can still create without it earning you your living. Perhaps you can find a career in the same field, with less glamour... Musicians can always become music teachers.... painters can become art equiptment suppliers... writers can become criminals....

*sigh*

Why couldn't I just have wanted to play tennis?

8-o

GOD! Excuse me.. give me a minute to compose myself... for now, "8-o" is all I can say!

...

*Says "8-o" a few more times*

HOLY BLAP! NEVER, and I mean NEVER, EVER install NORTON INTERNET SECURITY on your system! JESUS F****NG CHRIST! That was the WORST software experience of my LIFE!
OK, to start with, it disables pretty much EVERYTHING: I can't sign into messenger, icq, yahoo, irc... I can't open websites... I guess the theory being that your internet is protected by you being unable to access it.
So let's face it, this kind of program has NO purpose, right? OK.. so to begin with, it's a crap product.
But that's not enough! Oh no... the good men (and women) down at norton software have done their homework on THIS one! No no no... not NEARLY enough to JUST make the WORST product in existance! No no no.. that would never do! No... because after I installed this thing, other programs were crashing, not working, not responding.. and a response of attempting to remove the program from my system results in being forced to remove antivirus as well! I WANT the antivirus! It was the whole reason I put this shit on my computer in the first place! ARGH!
Anyway... an hour (and countless tantrums) later, the program is gone, my system is fine. And that's the end of THAT chapter. (I hope)

Just please, please.. learn from me, kiddies. NIS is bad... very very bad... it is evil, and it will eat your family if you let it into your homes...

Well that really does seem like a bunch of contrived garbage. Honestly, did I just rant for the sake of ranting? I think i must have..
If I am going to do things like that, there's not really any point me DOING this site, is there? I mean, the whole concept of a good rant is to get REALLY WORKED UP ABOUT SOMETHING! Preferably with FINGERS POUNDING THE KEYS and everything! Ranting for the pathetic sake of simple idle CONTROVERSY DEMEANS US ALL! But especially me.
I DO, however, stand by my ST quote. I HATE people who tell me I'm stupid because they just don't understand what I'm talking about. Am I crazy? Doesn't that, in fact, make THEM stupid? Hmm..

Onto bigger and better things...
What kind of person puts an ad in the paper for a job position, and then tells people to arrive at 9 am, when it is 20 minutes away from here?! What a complete lack of consideration! Of course what happenned is that I arrived, entered (looking half asleep, and being more accurately 77% asleep) and had an incredibly one sided interview which went something along the lines of:
Employer: where have you been working?
Me: bluh..muhbuhguhbuhmunnum...?
Employer: O...k.. what hours will you be available?
Me: blizznasitzkabada...
Employer: I see.. well.. we'll let you know.. thanks...

It took me 30 minutes to get home, and all I could think the whole drive back was "What a freaking waste of time!"
*sigh*
Still... I'm glad I DID haul my ass outta bed and get over there... gotte be in it to win it eh?

It's official: I TALK TOO MUCH!

Anyway... today I've been dwelling on a few issues I consider "rant-worthy".

Firstly: Japanese cars. Clearly they are superior to every other nation's piss weak attempts to copy them. Right? I mean, there's a reason they are the most popular cars around. Nice to use, nice to sit in, not so great to look at often (well... hmm...) but still... the design and engineering from this country's car companies is quite clearly the best.
Right?
So why, then, do so many people attempt to accuse me of ignorance when I decry the pathetic copies from the likes of Europe and Australia?
I LOVE being called ignorant just because someone doesn't understand me.
To these people, i say:

"Just cause you don't understand what's goin on
don't mean it don't make sense
And just cause you don't like it
don't mean it aint good

And lemme tell ya somethin
Before you go takin a walk in MY world,
you better take a look at the REAL world
cause this aint no Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood!
Can you say "feel like shit?"
Yeah well maybe sometimes I DO feel like shit
I aint HAPPY about it, but I'd rather FEEL like shit than be FULL o' shit!
And if I offended you, oh I'm sorry
but maybe you NEED to be offended!
and in my apology, one more thing: FUCK YOU!"

(Thank you, Suicidal Tendencies. Now go back to playing gay 80s glam rock)

Hmm.. and what is up with pirate/nautically orientated lyrics? How profusely GAY can one band be?? Haha, just thought I'd mention that.. I'm probably over tired at this point...

On the bright side, today is nearly over. ANGEL! Haha! In just over one hour, the new series of ANGEL begins!!! Am I excited? Do I talk to much? OF COURSE THE ANSWER IS YES!!!!!

More to come on the details of this possibly-even-better-than-Buffy series! Certainly the cliffhanger ending was superior to Buffy last season! Although Willow losing Tara and nearly destroying the world... hmm... maybe I speak too soon and brashly...

*cries over loss of Tara, who was, let's face it, the best character ever.*

Hmmm... I shall make note on my humble opinion of said Angel series beginning! Can it possibly live up to the expectations? Can it BE as amazingly cool as the Buffy beginning? ALL THESE QUESTIONS AND MORE WILL BE ANSWERED!

Of course, only by me, and only by giving you my incredibly one-sided opinion...

hehe oh well..

If you didn't want that, you would not have read this far now would you? At least that is what I believe very strongly.

;)

Speaking of humans being doomed, let's look at relationships.
What the hell is the deal with television? On Neighbours, we are led to believe that a guy is being "nice" and "caring" when
he cheats on his girlfriend of years, because he doesn't tell her until he "makes up his mind", and that she should simply
sit and wait until he decides! FUCK THAT! If he decides he wants her, she should say "Too late, shithead! You should have
decided that while i still CARED! Eat shit and die!"
Relationships require a great deal of respect and this kind of thing just pisses me off! The thing that is REALLY bugging
me about this is that this show is creating patterns of behaviour that young adults are going to feel compelled to follow!

BEWARE! The conformist medium threatens our very existance! TREMBLE IN YOUR BOOTS KIDDIES!

Wed, later that day...

For SHAME, employers of the world!
Is it not enough that, in these troubled times, particularly in a place such as Adelaide, good jobs are hard to find? But
to take a stance that "I WILL NOT give a chance to someone who has not been doing this EXACT job for EVER!"? What about a
CHANGE for said employee? To BEGIN with, how depressing must it be to have been working in ONE job for years, and decide,
"FUCK this, I am so sick of this job, I'd rather stuff my head down the TOILET than make ONE MORE SANDWHICH for a stranger!"
ONLY to find, NO employer will give this person a chance in a SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT FIELD! Not to mention the ridiculous nature
of ruling out people based on what they have been doing for others! I personally believe that I would be a much better employee
than most of the rude and obnoxious people who serve me at supermarkets and shops. But these employers are stuck with these
people because THEY HAVE EXPERIENCE! Pfft... well done, employers of Adelaide. I hope you're very happy with your embarrassing
and rude help. Or maybe they're so rude BECAUSE you're such idiots! Hmm.. *interesteing new concept develops* yeah.. I like
that idea.
"Oh, you have been making SANDWHICHES? Well, I'm sorry, but this bears NO relation to making BREAD! I HAVE NO TIME TO TRAIN
PEOPLE!"
EMPLOYMENT SODOMY!
I am the FIRST person to aknowledge that alot of people are MORONS and COMPLETELY INCOMPETANT! But it is a SAD day indeed
when smart, hard working and caring young people find themselves unemployable SIMPLY BECAUSE EMPLOYERS REFUSE TO GIVE THEM
A CHANCE!
UNIVERSITY STUDENTS NEED NOT APPLY? So now I am being SINGLED OUT as a sort of MINORITY? Not only are you unhappy with me
having done a SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT JOB FOR 4 YEARS, but now you won't even HEAR ME OUT because I am dedicated to study 2 days
a week! FANTASTIC!
Society is crumbling kiddies, and it is the ADULTS of this world that are destroying it!
Bitter old fools.. hmm... *imagines self in future* hehe... yeah... humans are doomed.

today's topic: blogs are gay!

May I just begin by asking, what in the world does "blog" mean? Dictionary.com has this to say on the topic: No entry found for blog. Bear in mind that this is an electronic dictionary. One might therefore make a small (and justifiable) assumption, then, about the inclusion of supposed "e-words" in said website's lexicon. But no! Where in teh world did this annoyingly "nu" and "trendy" word come from? Blogspot.com treats the word as though it is common and real. I might suggest it is neither.
Yes, as might be garnered from reading between the lines of today's post, I have been looking at "bloggers". This is because people told me: You should get a blog if you wanna put online diary stuff.
Blog? Blargh!
If I want to post my ranting words on a website and ignore the obvious advantages of a website creation device SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR ME TO DO SO, well, I believe i am more than within my rights! Besides, the obvious disadvantages make me mad just thinking about them.
More to come... I HAVE NOT YET BEGUN TO RANT!

Tuesday, February 11, 2003

Oh.
My.
God!

What a day! Excited? No. Over excited? Haha, getting closer.
To start with, let me simply say this: Best episode of Anything, ever!
The first episode of the newest series of Buffy, wow. Well constructed, well paced, intelligent and powerful! Over analyzing things always ruins their mysterious appeal in my opinion, but finishing the episode with "Buffy" saying the same words Buffy began the episode by saying was touching on brilliance! Such an exciting way to begin the heart-satisfying knowledge that Buffy is BACK on TV once again! This of course means that, two nights a week, I have something to do for an hour! YAY!
My second statement has to be ANDREW SYMONDS IS TODAY'S GOD! This should in fact have been the first statement, sorry Andrew.
Holy grap that was an exciting innings!
Picture it: 4/82 after 20 odd overs. Australia is in trouble! a TON of pressure on the last 2 established batsmen, Ricky Ponting and Andrew Symonds. These two step up and refuse to bow down, refuse to play anything but exciting, fluid, stroke-making cricket. One wicket falls, and Our beloved team is in deep shit. Suddenly, Ricky Ponting is out, caught slashing at a very very wide delivery. Ouch! All the expectation of Australia making a respectable total falls upon the shoulders of our man, Andrew Symonds. No problem he says, and dons the Shades of Godlihood. (H) <-- I think you all know what I am talking about.
The man plays what is probably in the top 5 all time most exciting innings, in what is the most interesting format for cricket in the world, under intense pressure! Belting balls to the boundary one after another... Looking in control and classy all the way. Yet this brilliant, unstoppable demolishing of the fielding team (whose position of strength at one point could not be questioned) was not enough for him on this day! Oh no... in his "Bruce Willis Die Hard Never Give Up" way, he singlehandedly leads Australia to a total in excess of 300 off 50 overs, wins the aggressive and very anti-Australia crowd over through his sheer dogged aggression, steps up the pitch to voice in no uncertain terms his disapproval of unsportsman like bowling aimed at his head (outlawed in the game of cricket, and claimed to be "accidental" in this case), the bowler steps back with HOT words (one of which begins with F.. I read his lips ;) The umpire steps in to break up the inevitable "macho chest-off", and sends the bowler off. Then Symonds strong-arms one of the next balls for six! The man scored 143 off 125 (Thats more than a run a ball.. impressive batting for such a prolonged period indeed!) The game still plays, it seems to me that the result is fore-ordained. 311 off 49 isn't impossible, but after that soul destroying innings, what team could lift enough to make such a total?
In other news, I put the sister in her place today. The message, loud and clear, was: her door-slamming behaviour shall not be tolerated in this household any longer! Her spoiled-childish protest against my music resulted me in me asking if she was ok, what had fallen? Then showing her disappointment and embarrassment at realizing she had simply been acting like a brat. Her face said it all: I'm humiliated and furious.
Yay me! Could today get better?
...and let's not forget: OPETH IN 2 MONTHS!!!

Sean's prognostication for 2003: Best Year of my life thus far!
